Cheap Star – «Songs For The Farrelly Brothers» (2016)

La banda franco-suiza Cheap Star, que dice estar influenciada nada menos que por grupos como Nada Surf, The Lemonheads, The Posies, Teenage Fanclub, The Jayhawks o Matthew Sweet, hace mucha justicia a sus referencias (y muestra maneras propias) en «Songs For The Farrelly Brothers» (22 febrero 2016), una verdadera joya de melodioso power pop atemporal. Será porque está producida por Ken Stringfellow y Jon Auer (The Posies) o será porque Cheap Star tiene mucho talento, el caso es que se trata de uno de los mejores álbumes del año, sin duda.

The Greatest Liar – «The Girl With The Chesnut Eyes» (2011)

Una pequeña joya power-pop la que ha creado la (hasta ahora para mí desconocida) banda francesa The Greatest Liar con su álbum «The Girl With The Chesnut Eyes» (2011). El disco recoge auténticos temas redondos dentro de las normas del género como «You Deserve Better», «Offside», «The Great Deceiver», «What We’re Gonna Do Next», «Bob Mould», «Brooklyn» o «Me & The Lonely Hearts Club Band. Pop intenso, guitarrero y brillante. Suena a caballo entre la new wave, Blur y Kaiser Chiefs. De lo mejorcito, vamos, aunque sin llegar a la altura de sus referencias, claro.
